The Spring and Autumn Period was the main period of external expansion in the history of Chu.Chu expanded from the small country in the Jing Mountain to the southern big country crossing the Yangtze River and Han River.Chu's external expansion had the characteristic with regionalism and periodicity. They were principal factors that influenced the expansion routes of Chu.This paper began from the two factors and combined them to research the specific development and the process of the evolution of Chu's expansion routes during the Spring and Autumn Period. This paper focus on the geographical factors and discusses in three chapters. The first chapter discusses the expansion routes of Hanshui Valley and has the time of the period of King Chu Wu.In this time,Chu came from the Danshui and Xishui Valley of the Qinling Mountains' south-eastern piedmont to the Yicheng Plain of Hanshui Valley. The Suqi War between Chu and Sui opened up the route from Jingshan Gallery of Dahongshan Mountain's southern piedmont to the Yunshui Valley. After that,King Chu Wu used the route to attack Yun and controlled the routes of Yunshui Valley.King Chu Wu opened up the two routes of Hanshui and Yunshui. The second chapter discusses the expansion routes based on Fangcheng and has the time from King Chu Wen to King Chu Gong.During the period of the King Chu Wen,Chu defeated the Shen and Xi and controlled the Fangcheng exit from the Hanshui. He also opened up the route from Nanyang Basin to the Upstream of Huaishui. After that,Chu get out the Fangcheng exit and strive for hegemony in the Plaine centrale for many times and fought for the Zheng in the outside of Fangcheng. The third chapter discusses the expansion routes of Huaishui Valley and had the time from King Chu Cheng to King Chu Zhao.It has partly coincidence with the second chapter in time. From King Chu Cheng to the beginning of the King Chu Zhuang,Chu turned to the development of the Upstream of Huaishui when it failed in the strive for hegemony in the Plaine centrale. From the King Chu Zhuang to the King Chu Zhao,Chu fought with Wu in the line of Zhongli-Zhoulai-Qunshu.In the later period of Chu Wu fighting,Wu went through Xu to control the downstream of Huaishui.Wu went into capital Ying through the North three exits in the upstream of Huaishui. The expansion wars of Chu in the Period of the Spring and Autumn were over.
