This is a project report on the translation of Chapter 1 and chapter 2 from When You Call My Name,a novel written by the award-winning American writer Sharon Sala. The novel mainly tells the romantic and mysterious love story with suspense between the hero Wyatt Hatfield and the heroine Glory Dixon, reflecting such issues as natural affection, love, humanity and morality. This translation practice not only aims to improve translator's ability, but expects to help Chinese readers have a further understanding about Sharon Sala and her unique and novel writing style. The work, when you call my name,is a typical novel, featured by specific language, vivid characters, exquisite psychological description as well as flexible use of rhetorical devices. Thus, the difficulties of translating the novel lie in the embodiment of the source language, the coherence of the context as well as the representation of the style. In light of the features of source text,Eugene Nida's theory of dynamic equivalence is employed as the theoretical guidance, and various translation strategies, for instance, amplification, division and omission are combined to show the beauty of source text and ensure the readability and coherence of target text.Meanwhile, the translator makes an analysis from four aspects, namely, vocabulary, syntax, text and style in the project report.Through this translation practice, the author realized that adequate preparation acts as the premise of a smooth translation process.Besides, appropriate theoretical guidance, flexible use of translation strategies, good command of the two working languages,as well as broad range of knowledge are all crucial to the production of a high quality translation.
