David Grossman(1954--)is one of the most famous writer in contemporary Israel. His novels combine the postmodern narrative style with the ethics of European realism literature in the nineteenth century, which devote to showing the Jewish people's history of suffering and current situation and describing the personal and collective traumatic experiences. The trauma in Grossman's novels reflects the pain of life that human can not bear, but it is also rooted in the author's real life. The nightmare of the Holocaust left over from the previous generation and the terrible living conditions in the war-torn Palestine area have greatly stimulated Grossman, and these emotional experiences have been projected into author's novels, which form the three main themes in Grossman's traumatic narrative--the killing trauma brought by the war and massacre to the Jews, the children's psychological shadow caused by the intergenerational transmission of trauma and the fact that the Israeli public politics has squeezed the space of individual life. The traumatic events in Grossman's novels have extremely powerful cruelty and absurdity,as the "heterogeneous" and "the Other" in the memory of the subject of trauma, they are torturing the subject of trauma and difficult to be authentically understood or accepted,as a result, there is a narrative paradox because the traumatic events is hard to say but have to be expressed. At this point, choosing the appropriate form to present the trauma has become the most important thing in the narrative process.Grossman chooses the two-way displacement narrative process and the nested structure in his novels, which makes the subject of trauma break through the narrative dilemma and achieve the expression of emotion and the reestablishment of memory. At the same time, the author also uses the other perspectives of children, women and abusers to show the trauma of adult, wars and the suffer correspondingly, which ensures the integrity, richness and the diversity of the traumatic narrative. The structure of time and space in the test can serve the narrative purpose of the author,so in order to highlight the trauma that the characters suffered,Grossman used the fragmented and retrospective temporal structure and the opposite spatial structure to strengthen the destructive of the trauma and stand out the ending of healing trauma.Grossman's traumatic narrative is not limited to the presentation and mourning of the trauma. The way to rebuild individual and collective living order after the disaster is also an important part that the author's attempt to express, which includes both the way of trauma treatments and the significance of the wound healing.Grossman advocates healing trauma by narration and communication. At the same time Grossman considers that the affirmation and promotion of the value of individual life and love should also be appreciated. The healing of trauma means that the secret psychological cave of the subject of trauma is completely crushed, and the rational reversion brings a lot of thought to the nature of the world.Grossman not only transcends the limitations of race but also explores the complexity of humanity in this process. The idealism and the critical spirit in the novel also embodies the humanistic social responsibility of the author, and has become one of the most representative features of Grossman's traumatic narrative works.
