Comparative Study On Using Chinese Characters As Proper Nouns In Xi’nian And Tso Chuan

Xi’nian of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips is written with Chu Characters in the middle and late period of the Warring States.Its recording events is from the beginning of the Western Zhou through to the early Warring States period.Therefore it is related in content and time to the Tso chuan.Scholars have focused on text comparison between Xi’nian and Tso Chuan,historical textual research and historical narration.The research results are mainly revealed in a series of twelve books published recently,which is named "Xi’nian of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and New Study on Ancient History".From a new perspective,this paper mainly explore how Tso Chuan was translated from ancient style prose into commonly used words in Han Dynasty.Due to limitation by time and space,we just study the use of the Chinese characters for proper nouns which are used in both Xi’nian and Tso chuan.We make a comparison of the Chinese characters used in the names for the countries,for the places and for historical personages.This paper emphasizes on the studying of the shapes of theses Chinese characters and discuss the original meanings.This research summarizes all the using of these Chinese characters in the background of the Handed Down Documents and the Unearthed Literature until now.Finally,we get the characteristics of the Chinese characters used for the proper words contained in current edition of Tso Chuan.To some extent,this study help us understand the progress of translation.This paper include four chapters and four forms:Chapter One: Introduces Xi’nian of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and relevant achievements;describes the study purpose,research method.Chapter Two: Compares Xi’nian of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and Tso Chuan about Chinese characters for the countries,emphasizes on the studying of the shapes of theses Chinese characters;summarizes the features of the Chinese characters used in the names for the countries in Tso Chuan.Chapter three: Compares Xi’nian of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and Tso Chuan about Chinese characters for the places,emphasize on the studying of the shapes of theses Chinese characters;summarizes the features of the Chinese characters used in the names for the places in Tso Chuan.Chapter four: Compares Xi’nian of Tsinghua Bamboo Slips and Tso Chuan about chinese characters for the historical personages,emphasizes on the studying of the shapes of theses Chinese characters;summarizes the features of the Chinese characters used in the names for the historical personages in Tso Chuan.ConclusionForm OneForm TwoForm Three Form Four...
