| In the late Tang-Dynasty and Five-Dynasties,GuanXiu is a poem monk that has high artistic achievements.He has been a monk since he was little and immersed in Buddhism thoughts.After graduation,he throws himself into the dissemination of Buddhism thoughts in China.He traveled the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River including Hubei,Zhejiang,Anhui,Jiangsu,etc.He becomes outstanding for his unique character.He does not stick to one pattern in his behavior with leaving many legendary stories carried on from generation to generation.In his later years,leaning on crutches,holding an alms bowl,he comes to Shu overcoming difficulties.The king of Shu gives him the full treatment.Eventually,he found a peaceful place to enjoy his old age.In the second year of YongPing period,he died in YiZhou when he was 80 years old.He is very talented and has great achievements in poetry,calligraphy and painting.His poems are more than 700.His poems are equal to Du Fu’s in the irony of the real world;His achievements in calligraphy are equal to HuaiXu’s.He is interested in the Thousand Character Classic,does well in the cursive,and creates a new calligraphy style —Jiang style;His paintings are mostly based on Buddhism Arahants.Paintings of sixteen Buddhism Arahants are created by him.An unique painting style —Wild and Elegance Buddhism Arahants painting is also created by him.His those achievements have a profound influence on later painting.This paper starts from the analysis of the stylistic features of GuanXiu ’s Buddhism Arahants paintings.Then,it discusses the aesthetic style and characteristics of GuanXiu ’s Buddhism Arahants paintings.Furthermore,it explores the aesthetic style of GuanXiu ’s paintings.This paper can be divided into six parts.Chapter one is the introduction.It mainly introduces the current situation of the studies about GuanXiu and analyzes methods and thoughts of these researches.The analysis of these data shows that the study about GuanXiu focuses on GuanXiu’s activities and poetry creation while the research on GuanXiu’s paintings are less than other aspects.Chapter two briefly introduces the traces of GuanXiu and discusses GuanXiu’ specific situation in the important period of creating Buddhism Arahants painting.This is conducive to analyze the specific aesthetic implication appearing in the appreciation of Buddhism Arahants paintings.Chapter three and Chapter four mainly interpret the aesthetic characteristics of GuanXiu’s Buddhism Arahants painting from the two aesthetic categories— "Ugliness" and "Yi".It is clearly to notice that GuanXiu’s Buddhism Arahants paintings of Wild and Elegance style are extremely different from other painters’ Buddhism Arahants paintings.His paintings show a unique aesthetic appeal.Chapter five and Chapter six mainly elaborates GuanXiu’s methods of aesthetic creation and the profound influence of his Buddhism Arahants paintings.For the aspect of creation techniques,there are three key points: The first is to inherit and innovate the traditional creation techniques;The second is to choose characters in real life as the creation mode;The last step is to converge the techniques and models in the heart,and create them out.The influence of Guan Xiu’s Buddhism Arahants paintings mainly focus on the creation the Wild and Elegance Buddhism Arahants paintings.That means he forms a kind of creation style to express Buddhist figure by the use of Taoist in the painting.The new painting and creation style greatly enriches the aesthetic characteristics of Chinese classical paintings. |
