Abstract: This dissertation is made a comparatively systematic study of the monk of poet GuanXiu 's experiences and his accomplishments of the poems , the handwritings and drawings in late Tang-Dynasty and Five-Dynasties. It divide into three chapters.The first chapter discusses thoroughly GuanXiu's experiences from A.D.832 to A.D.912 on the base of the textual criticism of GuanXiu's experiences and poems in annalistic style. It discusses in great detail GuanXiu's associations with many civil officials and high officials, such as his associations with QianLiu who was a king of WuYue, with ChengRui who was a leader of the JingNanarea, with WangJian who was the first emperor of QianShu political power, and associations with the high officials, such as Lu Zhi-you, WeiZhuangN ZhangGe etc. It make a thorough textual criticism of the false rumors on GuanXiu's experiences throughout the ages. For example, whether GuanXiu associated with QianLiu, and so on. The second chapter is on the accomplishments of GuanXiu's poems. It discusses mainly GuanXiu's collection of poems named XiYue and ChanYue which is how to collect and its editions which is how to hand down, and discusses his poetic style of praising good things and satirizing bad ones. The third chapter discusses GuanXiu's accomplishments of handwritings and drawings. It discusses mainly GuanXiu's accomplishments and influence of the drawings of Buddhism figures, especially of the drawings of the sixteen Buddhism arahants.
