| This is a simulated Chinese-English consecutive interpreting which is based on an economic interview with the president of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB),Jin Liqun.Firstly,the preparations before the interpreting are important: looking up the parallel texts and background information,creating a glossary and preparing the equipment.Then comes the interpreting process,the self-evaluation and the feedback from the audience.After the interpreting,the interpreter finds main problems in her interpreting and puts forward the countermeasures.There are mainly two kinds of problems.The first problem is misinterpreting,including misinterpreting of Chinese idioms,Chinese terminologies and long sentences.About misinterpreting of Chinese idioms,Chinese idioms have cultural characteristics,such as containing figure of speech and historical allusions.All these features cause obstacles for interpreting Chinese idioms.The free translation strategy is effective to cope with this problem.About misinterpreting of Chinese terminologies,the reasons for misinterpreting of terminologies are inadequate preparation for financial terminologies before the interpreting and the lack of professional knowledge.The countermeasures to this problem are terminology accumulation and adequate preparations for financial terminologies before the interpreting.About misinterpreting of long sentences,the reason for this problem is the difference between English and Chinese in syntax and grammar.English is hypotaxis in syntax and overtness in grammar,but the syntactic feature of Chinese is parataxis,and the grammatical feature is covertness.These differences in the language bring about difficulties in interpreting Chinese long sentences.The corresponding strategy is deverbalization.It means that the interpreter does not interpret what the speaker says but what he means.The second problem is the information loss,including the loss of the clauses and the sentences.The main reasons are high information density,insufficient memory ability and poor note-taking ability.The countermeasures to this problem are memory training and note-taking training.The analysis of these problems and the countermeasures lays a foundation for future interpreting.Meanwhile,the interpreter hopes that this report will offer meaningful reference to other economic interview interpreting. |
