This is a translation project report on How Games Move Us: Emotion by Design by Katherine Isbister,of which Chapter 1 "A Series of Interesting Choices: The Building Blocks of Emotional Design" is the source text of the translation project.The writer introduces basic elements of an emotional design of games and depicts a fundamental theory of the games emotional design—a flow theory.Main contents of this report are divided into five parts: Part One is a translation project description,including the background,objectives and significance of the project.Part Two is background of the source text,including introduction to the author,main contents and linguistic features of the source text.Part Three is about translation theories which are applied in the translation project.The translation is completed under the guidance of Nida's "back-transformation" theory.Part Four is translation difficulties and methods.The difficulties lie in the translation of idiomatic phrases,long sentences and terms which include games names and psychological terms.Corresponding translation techniques are used for the different difficulties.Imitation is utilized for terminology.Division and shift are applied for sentences.Part Five concludes lessons,implications and unsolved problems in the translation project.
