The awakening of female consciousness can be traced back to the 15 th century,and the western feminist movement has gone through three waves.Our ancient oriental country,which maintains the male-dominated society,has also begun to consider the issue of woman’s liberation in the mid-late 19 th century,then the living conditions of woman have gradually improved qualitatively.But until the 21 st century,there is still a problem of gender discrimination that can not be ignored in the world.Women are still defined and labeled,restricting their ability in the misunderstanding and prejudice.And modern media spreads or shapes woman image with prejudice causing greater damage.This article consists of four parts to explain the TV documentary "Defined Woman".The first chapter mainly expresses the study of the theory,and the practice creation combined with the theory which are the foundation and the propelling force of this work.The second chapter is the main content of the film design,including the expression of the theme,as well as the structure of the description.The main theme is divided into two parts — to show the shackles of woman from the traditional culture and the media as well as the real impact on modern woman,so as to explore woman in such an environment how to face these problems,how to make changes,society and media should have what kind of attitude and responsibility.The third chapter focuses on the audio-visual technology of the works.It makes some explanations about the selection of narrative form,the design of the titles and the ending,as well as the selection of the background music and the features of editing.This chapter analyses the works from a deeper perspective.The last chapter is about the creative value of the whole film,as well as the creation of some of the problems found in the process.All these have got experience for the later creation of film and television works,and also look for more meaningful perspectives for thinking about social issues related to woman.This article states that modern woman is suffering sex stereotypes from traditional culture and mass media through interpreting the main subject and creative method of the documentary "Defined Woman",and also actively explores the possibility of saving others or saving ourselves.Finally,it shows people’s wishes under this circumstances and the positive attitude to achieve their aspirations.It also calls on society and the public to face the gender issues together,in order to improve the problem.
