Philippines is a multinational,multi-language,and multi-cultural country.Because it is a nation composed of so many islands,far away from the other continents,as well as the Philippines being under the Spanish and American colonization for a long centuries,the development and changes in its social economy,history and policies over the years,the language spoken by the Chinese in the Philippines has a more distinct character.At present,the official languages in the Philippines are Tagalog and English.English permeates every race,while Tagalog is the central language in their language education.All of these factors contribute to Chinese-Filipinos having their own distinct language and culture.Code-mixing is very normal in everyday conversation.Code-mixing,is code-switching that happens in sentence structure,because of some exceptional excuses in personal behavior,some people would mix some other language words when he/ she is using one language.Code mixing does not only affect interpersonal conversation,but also affect Chinese language teaching.For now,we already know a lot of works that focus on English with other languages,but we did not see any study which is focused on Chinese-Filipinos' English-Chinese code-mixing,much less comparing the different background of the Chinese-Filipinos.This paper is from the perspective of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages,that focuses mainly on the study of the Chinese people with different language background living in Metro Manila,by exploring the Chinese-English language code mixing of this special group,which can provide reference for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages,information and feasibility recommendations.The object of this study is the Chinese and new Chinese immigrants living in Metro Manila,who were interviewed,and the proceedings of which were recorded and written down as is.Statistics,and analysis were done to find out the commonalities and differences between the two in the code,and to explore the reasons for such difference.After analyzing the results of the Chinese group and the new Chinese immigrants,this paper also conducted a survey on the Chinese language learners of the Philippines who had more or less taken HSK level 3.It's important to understand their attitude towards their Chinese teacher during Chinese class,this way we will be able to provide a reference to those who are working as Chinese teachers in the Philippines or in any other part of the world.
