| The study is based on the Myer’s scotton markedness model.It investigates the functions of English/Chinese code switching in different situations.It mostly emphasizes on Kenyans who are a bilingual community learning Chinese language. With the analysis of the markedness model8functions of codeswitching in this community are found:quotation, clarification, euphemism, humour, gap-filling, fashion, social identity and expansion. The markedness model is well proved in this study. People tend to code switch for various reasons in different situations. |
