Study On Reliability And Validity And Preliminary Application Of The Quiet Ego Scale

Objectives:The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Quiet Ego Scale(QES)and to explore the relationship among QES,Authenticity,Self-Esteem and Meaning in Life,and to test the mediator effect of Authenticity and Self-Esteem between QES and Meaning in Life.The study also aimed at investigating the stability of Meaning in Life in university students with QES.Methods: the Chinese version of Quiet Ego Scale(QES)were developed using the translation-back translation method,and were administered to a Sample of Chinese students(n=216)first,because the confirmatory factor analysis did not confirm the hypothesized 4-factor model well,we then reconstructing the model,instead inclusive identity subscale to forgiveness subscale,and the new constructed scale examined well in 503 college students.Then the new QES,the Authenticity Scale,Self-Esteem Scale and Meaning in Life Questionnaire were used to investigate 503 students.32 students were chosen to participate in the daily study.The data was analyzed by SPSS22.0 and AMOS21.0.Results:(1)The data did not fit the hypothesized 4-factor model well in the initial measurement(?2=148.54,df=73,?2/df=2.04,CFI=0.89,NFI=0.81,TLI=0.87,PNFI=0.65,RMSEA=0.07),using forgiveness replacing the inclusive identity,the new model fit the data well(?2=119.02,df=61,?2/df=1.95,CFI=0.92,TLI=0.92,TLI=0.90,PNFI=0.67,RMSEA=0.06.(2)The quiet ego score was positively correlated with meaning in life,life satisfaction and self identity(r=0.29~0.47,p< 0.001),while negatively correlated with the dark triad(r=-0.39,p<0.001).(3)The mediating effect of authenticity,self-esteem between QES and meaning in life was significant,and the ratio of mediating effect to total effect was 22.33%.The mediating effect of self-esteem between QES and meaning in life was significant,and the ratio of mediating effect to total effect was 29.13%.(4)An analysis based on the Hierarchical Linear Model shows meaning of life high and stable among Student whose ego is quite.Conclusions:(1)The reconstructed Chinese version of QES is reliable and valid for application in China.(2)The QES could affect meaning in life by authenticity and self-esteem.(3)People with high QES have high and stable meaning in life.
