The text for translation,“Identification Problems: US Special Education Eligibility for English Language Learners” is an educational academic paper.It was written by David E.De Matthews,professor of University of Texas at El Paso and D.Brent Edwards Jr.,professor of University of Hawaii,and was published in International Journal of Educational Research in 2014.This paper discuss that English language learners,especially the students with disabilities,are at risk of being inappropriately identified or not identified for special education in the states,districts and schools along US-Mexico border.The argument and data in this paper have great directive significance for the policy of government.The findings inform next generation policy initiatives and identify important lines of inquiry for further research,thus promoting more just treatment of English language learners.The translation report consists of four parts: translation task description,summary of the translation process,case study,and conclusion.Translation task description includes the source of material to be translated,the introduction of the authors and the thesis.Summary of the translation process includes translation preparations,and the difficulties or problems encountered in the translating process.Case study,the core of the translation report,analyzes the important cases from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax and context.The last part is the concluding part.In the translation process,“theory of dynamic equivalence” by Nida is the key theory.As to the translating method,a combination of “literal translation” and “free translation” are adopted.Paying much attention to translation of educational terminologies,and according to the text feature,the style of original text and translated text should be same as much as possible.The different translation tools are employed as well.After being revised for several times,the translation is finalized.In summary,a good translator should acquire more knowledge of translation theories and advance the translation ability in various translation activities.
