| With the trade volume increasing between China and India,various interpreting activities are gaining popularity with each passing day.The growing Indian market requires more and more interpreters to interpret in India,which is also a new field that challenges interpreters.As a liaison interpreter,the interpreter accompanied a CMRC engineer to go to MSPL pellet plant which is located in Banglore,India to maintain lubrication system provided by CMRC in China.This report analyzes the practice in detail.It was the first time to engage in metallurgical machinery industry and to interpret in another country so that the interpreter was under great psychological pressure originating from specialized knowledge,Indian English and cross-cultural communication.This report is based on the interpreter’s practical experience,which covers the four aspects,namely,task overview,task process,case analysis and task summary,with main focus on task process and case analysis.In case analysis,the interpreter enunciates the interpreting strategies adopted in the practice and analyzes the mistakes and their solutions.According to task process and case analysis,this practice report draws four conclusions.First,the interpretation task is quite successful.Second,adequate pre-interpretation preparation and extra-linguistic knowledge ensure the smooth progress of the interpretation task.Third,adopting the effective interpreting strategies in the process ensures the quality of interpretation.Fourth,the interpreter needs to enhance listening ability and analysis skill and note-taking skill to reduce misinterpretation and omissions.The practical value of this report is to summarize effective interpreting strategies and the weak points in the practice so that it could help the interpreter accumulate experience and learn lessons from the mistakes.Meanwhile,it could offer insight and references to students and liaison interpreters to handle technical terms,Indian English and cross-cultural communication. |
