Study On Governing East-Zhejiang Canal In The Soutern Sung Dynasty

The national economy was based on canal transportation in the Sung Dynasty.There is not only a profound link between canal transportation and economical development,but also have an interactive development relationship between them.After the Zhao Royal Household moved to the south of China,East-Zhejiang Canal not only bore the responsibility which convey the abundant goods from south-east to Lin’an,the capital of the Southern Sung Dynasty,but also was a significant water way traffic route for import and export trade.Therefore,it’s very important to govern East-Zhejiang Canal timely and effectively.The canal was made smooth and convenient that not only could promote the social economy development,but also could contribute a virtuous cycle system between traffic development and economic growth.Study on governing East-Zhejiang Canal in the southern Sung Dynasty through both the background reason and the governing process of East-Zhejiang Canal,this thesis has four chapters,as fellow:Chapter 1 described the background reason of governing East-Zhejiang Canal in the southern Sung Dynasty.There are various reasons about East-Zhejiang Canal’s rising in the southern Sung Dynasty.The first one is that the canal located on a very important geography situation.The second is that Songliuling Imperial Mausoleums built on the eastern of Shaoxing Court,the emperor coffins had to be conveyed by water transport.And the third is that East-Zhejiang Canal was a significant water way traffic route for both conveyed goods from south-east to Lin’an and import-export trade.Therefore,the canal was valued and improved vigorously by the government in the southern Sung Dynasty.Chapter 2 described the situation of governing East-Zhejiang Canal in the southern Sung Dynasty.The processes of governing East-Zhejiang Canal were elaborated.The repaired canals included Shangyu county Liang Hu weir easterncanal,Yue state to Yuyao county canal,C ixi River Canal,Xixing Canal and Jianhu Canal.Chapter 3 described the engineering technology and the leading world shipbuilding level on East-Zhejiang Canal in the southern Sung Dynasty.It not only gave a detailed introduction on the engineering technology about sea dyke,weir,floodgate,canal offlet,etc.But also,it described that time’s advanced technology in shipbuilding and increasing of the ship’s carrying capacity,etc.Chapter 4 described the interaction between the governing of East-Zhejiang Canal and the development of regional economy in the southern Sung Dynasty.A cause-and-effect relationship on development between East-Zhejiang Canal and regional economy was reflected through the analysis on the population growth and the developments both of commodity economy and towns in east-Zhejiang region at that time.
