A Study On The Translation Methods Of Culture-Loaded Words In Unforgettable Stories And Memories

The book,Unforgettable Stories and Memories,tells family stories,village regulations and folklores in Chinese ancient villages.Ancient villages have significant historical and culture value,occupying important position in Chinese splendid civilization.Its value is of great significance to Chinese people and is of big influence to people all over the world for its unique cultural charm.The culture elements of ancient villages produce many culture-loaded words.Under the guidance of Newmark's semantic translation and communicative translation,some translation methods and techniques are analyzed with some typical examples of the culture-loaded words in the book.Translation methods and techniques include transliteration,literal or liberal translation,literal translation with notes,addition and omission.The following three findings are concluded based on the research.Firstly,the translation of culture-loaded words not only needs to take the context of the source text into consideration but also need to pay attention to the influence of social context and cultural context.Secondly,the translation method,literal translation with notes,not only keep the cultural flavors and peculiar cultural images of the source text,but also helps foreign readers to learn more Chinese culture.Thirdly,communicative translation is an effective method in translating linguistic culture-loaded words.In the course of the translation,to change original form and to omit source images can avoid distorting the meaning of source text.
