Three-dimensional book, also known as pop-up book,is a new form of paper book.It is prevailing among teenagers and people interested in arts and crafts.Readability and interestingness are extensively improved by combining the popular science texts with three-dimensional form. However, due to the late introduction of the pop-up books and ignorance of popular science translation, the translation quality of the present popular science books varies greatly. So it is very meaningful and necessary to study the translation of popular science pop-up books.Taking New York Times bestseller Safari as the source text, and guided by schema theory, this thesis discusses the corresponding strategies and methods to cater for the principles of schematic translation in the two stages of understanding and expressing,in order to make the translator and readers activate their schemata, and make the translation consistent with the features of popular science readings. At the stage of understanding, this thesis analyzes some incorrect translations in the translator's first translation version and tries to revise them through looking up dictionary, searching background information and understanding contextual meaning,in order to avoid the misunderstanding of the source text.At the stage of expressing, firstly at the lexical level, the translator should take measures to translate the animal names, pronouns, measurements and four word idioms to activate the readers' linguistic schema, and to make the translation more scientific and literary;Secondly at the sentence level, the translator should use the translation strategies like domestication or zero translation and methods like addition to activate and enrich the readers' content schema; Finally at the text level, the translator should use simile,or specific words to activate the readers'sense schema and make the translation more interesting and meet the readers' need.Hopefully this thesis can conclude more strategies and methods for popular science translation and serve as the reference for the subsequent researchers.Meanwhile, hope it could be also helpful for the future translation and publishing of domestic popular science pop-up books.
