The Study On The Filmizing Of Sutong’s Novels

Judging from the current situation,the film works adapted from Su Tong’s novels can be regarded as pioneering works quantitively and qualitatively among the avant-garde writers and even the whole contemporary writers.For this uncommon phenomenon,through intensive reading of Su Tong’s novels,the author finds that there is a clear heterogeneous structure relationship between Su Tong’s novel and film art.In other words,Su Tong’s novels have distinct characteristics of film.The author believes it is an important prerequisite for his novel to be adapted into films frequently and successfully.Even so,the art of the novel and the art of the film belong to different Media and different ways to “watch”.Therefore,many changes undergo in the process of the adaptation of the novel into the film.In addition,as a medium of communicating novel and the film,adaptation not only respects the original,but also maintains its independence.Accordingly,the study of the particularity of the film itself cannot be ignored.So,this article takes eight novels which were adapted into films and their corresponding seven films as the object.They were studied from three aspects:adaptation premise,adaptation process and adapted works.First of all,through intensive reading of Su Tong’s eight novels,this paper analyzes the novels’ filmic features respectively from three angles,the narrative content of the story,and the leap of the narrative structure and the lens of the narrative technique.That is,it aims to study the adaptation conditions of Su Tong’s novels from the perspective of literature.Secondly,this paper makes a comparative study of the novels and the films,and explains the variations in the process of translating the novel narration to the narrative of the film from three aspects,the narrative theme,the characterization and the plot structure.Finally,this article,to start from movie ontology with the seven adapted films as the objects,analyzes diversity of their respective audio-visual languages entered by fluently organized image grammar and varied image rhetoric.Looking back the history,Su Tong is by no means the first writer cooperating cross-borderly sparkling in film industry,and will never be the last writer who has intimate contact with the film.As far as the close contact between literature and film,writer and director,is it a mutual win-win or mutual impairment? The film adaptation process of Su Tong’s novels not only made a positive answer,but also carried out a comparatively demonstration about the question.
