At present,animated movies in China are developing towards diversified types.In spite of a dim expectation among the majority of Chinese audiences,Monkey King: Hero Is Back(3D version)on show in July 2015 managed to set a box office record of RMB 956 million in China amidst the competition with other movies of the same period.Its success lies in the high quality of the movie itself and the good reputation set before,and its success also helps to rebuild Chinese audiences' confidence in and expectation of domestic animated movie under the long-term of sluggish and depressed situation.Audio-visual language serves as the grammar for movies.It requires an appropriate arrangement of the visual and audio sense so as to provide the best story and connotation for audiences.This thesis mainly makes analysis and researches on the artistic expressions of audio-visual language in this movie,hoping to find the merits for reference for the development of other domestic animated movies in creation and practice.This thesis consists of six parts.Part 1 is the introduction part of the content,background and significance of this research.Part 2 mainly talks about the era background,namely the social,cultural and technological situation for movie creation.Part 3 is an analysis on the playwriting,plastic arts,and ethnic elementsscene design of the movie from the perspective of visual elements.Part 4 mainly analyzes the audio elements,namely the application of musical factors in the movie.Part 5 is a research about the movie editing in general.Part 6 deals with the application analysis of the artistic expression of the audio-visual language of the movie.And Part 7 implies the profound meaning in the audio-visual language in Monkey King: Hero Is Back,aiming at finding out those elements that make this movie a hit and that promote,to some degree,the development of the animated movie market.Through analysis and research from all perspectives on the audio-visual language in this well-favored Monkey King: Hero Is Back,this thesis concludes that the reasons for the success and worldwide popularity of this animated movie lie in the exquisite modelling,background design,mature shots connection,artful use of colors and music and involvement of Chinese ethnic elements.To some degree,the success of this movie can provide some illumination for the development of Chinese animated movies amidst the current movie market with constant changes and some commercial rules to follow.What we have leant from the research and studied from the ingenious use of audio-visual language in this movie will provide new modes of thinking and theoretical resources for the creation of animated movies and bring more possibilities for the development ofChinese animated movies in the future.
