Translation Report On Greetings From Shandong Theme Activity Of China Development Forum 2016

This report was based on a translation project provided by International Exchange Center of Shandong Province.The content of this project was to translate cooperative proposals provided by the enterprises of Shandong Province for the theme activity"Greetings from Shandong" held by China Development Forum in 2016.The translation project mainly introduced enterprise profiles and cooperative contents to foreign companies attending this event.Different from translation of literary works,this translation project attaches more importance to the transmission of necessary information,while the less important contents and sentence patterns sometimes have to be treated in the second place.In this report the author discussed and shared translation methods of technical terms,phrases and sentences that were applied in the translating process.K.Reiss pointed out in her seminal work,Type,Kind and Individuality of Text:Decision Making in Translation,that there were three main text types:informative text,expressive text and operative text.Informative text is a carrier of contents referred to Reiss,which is also the main characteristic of this translation project.Hence,in this report,the author,based on Reiss’s text typology,analyzed the translating process and translation methods of terms,phrases,sentence patterns,long sentences and zero-subject sentences in the source language text.It is hoped that this report will be helpful to translators dealing with such type of text.
