Study Of The Place Names In Naiman

A geographic(place)name is the proper name assigned to a particular entity,which implicates the geographical location,topography,customs,production and lifestyle,natural environment as well as religious and cultural characteristics.The study of the geographic names can be a comprehensive interdisciplinary subject integrating geography,linguistics,sociology,religion and culture.Based on the theory in general linguistics,this essay aims at analyzing the structural features,naming motivation and features of geographic names in Naiman Banner.The author uses the description,data statistics,field surveys and other research methods in this essay.This paper contains seven parts.The introduction introduces the research status of Mongolian geographic names,and expounds the purpose,significance as well as the research methods of this study.The second part,that is Chapter one,introduces the overview of Naiman Banner and discusses the structural features of the geographic names in Naiman.In Chapter two,the author discusses the features and naming basis of Mongolian geographic names in Naiman Banner and features of Chinese translations.From the historical and cultural aspects,Chapter three expounds the cultural connotation of Mongolian geographic names in Naiman.Finally,it summarizes the content of the paper,emphasizing the significance and urgency of the research.
