Abstract/Summary:
The Sound and Meaning of the Tripitaka written by Xuan Ying is the earliest book about sound and meaning of the Tripitaka that we can see now.The book is to tell us the pronunciation and meaning of the words of Tripitaka which is hard to understand.It is the important material that is used to study the pronunciation,vocabulary and character of the middle ancient times.We study on the Jingwenzuozi which is the characters that used in the Tripitaka.There are two parts in this paper.First,the relationship between the Jingwenzuozi and Cimuyongzi(the characters used by Xuan Ying)Second,the value of Jingwenzuozi in exegesis and collation as material.
