| Terminology is a collection of names used to represent concepts in particular subject areas,also known as a noun or a technical term in China.Terminology,mainly the product of the development of science and technology,refers to the linguistic symbols that people use to indicate some things,and is also the terms in different subjects.Terminology can be a word,or a phrase used to label the things,phenomena,characteristics,relationship,and the process in various professional fields,such as science,technology,art,and social life.The nautical terms refer to the use of technical terms in navigational areas.This translation report focuses on the translation of nautical terms in the article"Utilisation of Cognitive Map in Modelling Human Error in Marine Accident Analysis and Prevetion" a foreign journal named SAFETY SCIENCE.This translation report studies the translation strategies of nautical terms from the perspective of terminology translation.First of all,the author translated the different kinds of nautical terms that appear in the article,and made appropriate classification for the terms,which are mainly divided into three categories:names of navigation tools,general nautical-science terms and nautical semi-science terms.Due to the technical nature of nautical terms,the author has proposed that translators should use"literal translation","free translation","transference" and other translation strategies to translate nautical terms based on the principles of "following the accepted translation","appropriateness" and other translation principles.Through this translation practice report,the author hopes to be able to discuss the translation strategies of nautical terms in a complete,accurate,and systematic way,in order to provide certain references for the translation research of nautical terms in China and related maritime literature,and to let the personnel in China maritime sector better master the latest development of nautical fields in foreign countries and learn from other countries. |
