| Against the background of globalization, China has more frequent high level exchanges with the international community. Meanwhile C-E diplomatic interpreting has become the focus of people’s attention. With the study, the author aims to explore some rules and skills of the diplomatic interpreting, which can provide reference for interpreting practice as well as guide the author’s future interpretation.In this thesis, the author applies Interpretative Theory to diplomatic interpreting and with the case study the author finds the theory is of significance. To start with, interpreters should focus their attention on the meaning of the speaker, rather than particular words. With the help of linguistic knowledge and extra-linguistic knowledge, interpreters can comprehend the speaker’s message. Then interpreters should grasp the sense conveyed by the speaker when the concrete words or expressions disappear. This process is called deverbalization. Finally, interpreters should express the affection and sense embedded in the source discourse. In this way, interpreters can become the bridge between the speaker and the listener.With the example of C-E interpreting of Xi Jinping’s speech in Australia’s Federal Parliament, the thesis discusses the features and challenges in C-E diplomatic interpreting from the perspective of the Interpretive Theory and puts forward such interpretation strategies as amplification, omission, liberal interpretation, which can help interpreters convey the message more accurately. These interpretation strategies are of great help, for they can guide the author’s future interpretation. |
