International exchanges have become increasingly intensive in the globalized context, which has been stimulating the growth of translation industry. Presently, MTI education is a focus due to the obvious shortage of competent translators in China. The research is an attempt to investigate and explore the current situation of MTI programs in China in comparison with successful training modes abroad. The number of MTI graduates is soaring, yet many of whom are not professionally trained with what is needed by the market, as a result of a lack of specialized, distinctive and professional training. In the light of Nord's model of translator's competence, some suggestions are proposed in the thesis, which can be concluded as the improvement of:1) guideline of MTI cultivation; 2) appraisal of students' competence; 3) process-oriented teaching methodology; 4) curriculum designed to enhance students' translational competence from the perspective of the market; 5) collaboration between colleges or universities and enterprises with more attention to professional practice and internship supervision. A comprehensive adjustment on the part of universities is imperative, which is market-oriented and students-centered while reflecting regional identities.
