| With the globalization of world economy and China's entry into WTO, English is playing more and more important role in our life. Then recently bilingual education has become a focus in our society and more and more people have paid attention to it. Bilingual education as a new teaching approach refers to using foreign language or the second language as the teaching medium to teach science subject. In this educational system, the final teaching object is to make students master the science subject as well as to improve the foreign language ability. The bilingual education accepted by the world appeared in 1960s. In some developed countries, such as Canada, America, and Singapore, bilingual education has become some dimensions. But for the different situation of the countries, the aims and models of bilingual education are quiet different. In general, there are three types of bilingual education model, which are the transitional model, the maintenance model, and the immersion model. Till now, the most successful bilingual education is Canada's immersion model.However, there are so many problems in bilingual education at the same time of its making the obvious impression. For example, the problem of persons qualified of teachers, the problem of curriculum design, the problem of students'language proficiency and so on. Furthermore, the representation forms of these problems are different from countries. So the controversy about bilingual education is never stopped.Pingdu Normal School (hereinafter referred to as PNS) began to carry out bilingual education in 2004, and it has accumulated some valuable teaching experiences by several teaching practices. With the instruction of theories and methodologies of SLA, the thesis takes 256 students from two grades in computer department of PNS as the viewed subjects. During the case study various instruments and research methods are employed, including interviews with bilingual teachers, direct classroom observation, and the questionnaire from students. Through the research, the author finds out some main problems existing in the bilingual education in PNS, and brings forward relevant solutions in the aspects of persons qualified of teachers, curriculum design, teaching materials and the evaluation systems respectively. For the moment, the problems of bilingual education existed in our school also occur in other Chinese normal schools, for this is the common phenomenon at present. So, to some extent, the suggestions and solutions brought to the PNS can also be offered to other normal schools.The author hopes that some certain research results of this case study can be helpful to some other bilingual subjects and English teaching in our normal school. Beyond all doubt, this thesis has also intensified the author's comprehension of bilingual education. |
