Cohen's Criticism Of Rawls's Equality

As an egalitarian,Rawls put forward the view of justice based on equality,which is embodied in the two basic principles of justice.But Rawls is a moderate liberal,his view of equality is the theory of compromise to freedom,and pursuit of a form of equality,and its essence of the theory is to defend the inequality of capitalism.Therefore,after finishing the criticism of Nozick,Rawls became the main theoretical criticism object of criticism of Cohen.In the process of criticizing Rawls' s view of equality,Cohen completed his defense of socialist equality.Cohen's criticism of Rawls' s concept of equality is mainly from three aspects in order to promote:Rawls' s two arguments(the argument of provocation and the Pareto argument),the critique of the "basic structure objection",the criticism of Rawls' s principle of difference.This paper is carried out along Cohen's logical reasoning sequence of Rawls' s criticism,it consists of four parts: the introduction part introduces the purpose and significance of this paper,the research status at home and abroad,and the research method.The first chapter focuses on Cohen's critique of Rawls' background.The second chapter is the main part of this paper,which mainly introduces the main content of Cohen's critique of Rawls' s view of equality.First of all,Cohen criticized the theory of inspiration and Pareto's argument,Cohen argued that Rawls used the incentive argument to argue with the legitimacy of the Pareto argument as unequal legitimacy.Cohen,as a socialist egalitarian,resolutely opposed the defense.And then about Cohen's critique of "basic structural objections".Cohen argues that Rawls' s point of view that the principle of justice does not apply to the choice of the individual,Cohen put forward his own point of view,he believes that the principle of justice can not only be applied to the basic structure of society,can also be applied to personal choice.However,Rawls and his supporters questioned Cohen's point of view,which is the "basic structural objection".Subsequently,Cohen put forward the two rebuttal to the "basic structure objection".Finally,Cohen criticized Rawls' differences.Cohen reconsidered the principle of difference.Then this paper points out that,according to Rawls' s difference principle,this kind of social inequality wasl be considered fair has a very important reason,which is "moralarbitrariness".so Cohen criticize it.After that,CohenCohen criticized the doctrine of contract for the defense of the principle of difference.The third chapter is a brief evaluation of Cole's critique of Rawls' equality view.
