Comparison Between Confucius And Pythagoras "Harmony" Thought

The universe is a harmonious and orderly whole,based on which the common ideas of the ancient Chinese Confucian founder Confucius and the ancient Greek philosopher Pythagoras were produced.As the founder of Confucianism in ancient China,Confucius,whose "harmonious" thought was based on the unity of man and nature,regarded the world as a whole,emphasizing the harmony of society and the harmony of interpersonal relationships.Based on these "ideas",and taken "ceremony" as a code of conduct to regulate people's behavior,then a Datong society with natural harmony,social harmony,and interpersonal harmony could be established.From these ideas,Confucius required people to respect nature,to recognize the relationship between man and nature,and required people to follow the ritual system,to enhance their own moral cultivation,and required people not only concern with their body health,but also regularly review their own inner world,and finally made people becoming gentlemen,learning from each other,and maintaining the mean attitude of their life.And as the first philosopher of the concept of "harmony" in the history of western philosophy,Pythagoras for the first time revealed the connotation of "harmony",which was based on the concept of number.He believed that everything is made by the proportion of the number,natural harmony was embodied in the operation of the universe being in line with the proportion of the number,social harmony also took number as its internal strength.Based on these ideas,Pythagoras sought the harmony between rulers and the ruled,highly evaluated the importance of the law in the community,and with regard to the individuals,he stressed the value of one's soul,and the washing effect of music on one's soul.Confucius and Pythagoras both are the famous philosophers of the same age but in different world,and the founders and representatives of different cultures.An analysis of the thought of Confucius and Pythagoras can promote the development of a harmonious society at present.Their harmony thought mainly includes three aspects,namely,harmony between man and nature,harmony between man and society,and harmony among people.Through the elaboration of the main contents of Confucius and Pythagoras in the view of nature,society,and life,this dissertation contrasts their harmonious thoughts in the above aspects,in order to provide some inspirations for our country to build a socialist harmonious society.With the development of economic globalization,the links between countries are getting closer and more frequent,and human beings live together in a "global village".The goal of our country is to build a socialist harmonious society.In this process,the progress and development of our society are not isolated.We cannot act blindly by divorcing ourselves from the reality.We can not only focus on the development of our own society,but also need to pay attention to the whole state of the environment.For construction of a harmonious society,and supporting of the harmonious culture,we not only need to reserve our traditional culture,but also need to absorb and learn from the Western ideas,in order to promote the process of building our socialist harmonious society.Confucius and Pythagoras play an important role in the era of their time and the development of later generations.Through the comparison of the harmony thought between Confucius and Pythagoras,this dissertation analyzes of the same and the different between the two philosophers,absorbs the advantages in their thoughts,so as to help to promote a comprehensive construction of our socialist harmonious society,because their thoughts can help us to better understand the essence of the harmonious society connotation.
