In the postwar period,‘Guotai Film Pictures' and ‘Datong Film Company' occupied extremely important position in the history of film in China.Compared with other film companies in the same period,these two companies produced the largest number films with highly strong commercial elements.Recently,both in China and abroad,most of the research are focus on ‘Kunlun' and ‘Wenhua',but less on ‘Guotai'(short for ‘Guotai Film Pictures')or ‘Datong'(short for ‘Datong Film Company').Only few works involve film textual analysis of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong'.Amalgamate these two companies as one,the carding of creation and operating strategies are much rarer.Obviously,it has important academic value and historical significance to integrate the splitting history of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong' in the rewriting of film history.Based on the development history of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong',focus on the operating strategies and genre film creation,there is historical significance to make a study on systematic carding and theoretical research of the early film.Moreover,It is a reflection on the concept of history and culture in a specific period to reacquaint the development history of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong'.Under the background of politics,economy and culture in the whole era,Based on the open concept of history,it is also a kind of new academic attempt to get Into a wider and more diverse academic sphere.This article is divided into four chapters: Chapter One is “Establishment and Development of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong' in the Postwar Period”,this part mainly reviews the operating conditions of ‘Guotai'(former as ‘Guohua Pictures'),in addition,the brief analysis on social and cultural background and film industry of Shanghai in the postwar period are involved,which aims to make a brief introduction of the background when ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong' founded,based on the historical data.Chapter Two is “Transformation of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong'(1949-1952)”,mainly describes the creation of two companies in the context of socialism after the establishment of P.R.China in 1949,with text analysis of the films they produced,try to restore the ideology of these two companies that how they try to cater to rulers,but finally be incorporated into the national system.Chapter Three is ”Genre Film Creation of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong'”,in this chapter,detailed analysis of genre film creation whether comedy,detective,or musical are discussed,aims to make brief analysis and value judgments on each genre film.The last chapter is “Filmmaker Analysis of ‘Guotai' and ‘Datong'”,which contains analysis of filmmaker at cultural level.Both producer and directors even on different creation trends in this period,each of them has specific characteristics and pursuit.What's more,this part also analyses operating strategies of these two companies and the resulting in three different creative trends.‘Guotai Film Pictures' and ‘Datong Film Company' only existed for six or seven years,but their development has experienced with two periods.Different political environment and cultural environment deeply affected the film creation.How to eliminate the ‘reactionary' or ‘double-sided' stereotype of these two companies in traditional history,and treat the film creation in such specific period fully and objectively,as well as the historical reasons of their operating strategies and fate changing.Combined with the present genre film creation upsurge,provide important revelation for today's film creation.Above of all,are the meaning of doing research on ‘Guotai Film Pictures' and ‘Datong Film Company'.
