Wang Xiangrong is a famous contemporary Northern Shaanxi folk singer,with excellent singing skills and unique understanding of Northern Shaanxi ballads.He not only presents the Northern Shaanxi folk song style for audiences,but also makes great contributions to the inheritance and transmission of it.A conversation with Wang Xiangrong reveals his deeply indescribable feelings to folk songs of Northern Shaanxi.He is not only a folk singer,but also a researcher and scholar in ballads.His successful experience deserves much admiration and reference for young singers.This paper consists of five chapters.The first chapter introduces the basic characteristics of the Northern Shaanxi ballads.The natural environment caused the unique regional style of the songs.The content of farming reflects the people of Northern Shaanxi.Less direct description on objective natural things,plus more straight expression about inner world reflects the lyric of folk songs;the second chapter,ranging from the singing pitch,timbre,breath and emotional expression to characters of language,analyzes Wang Xiangrong’s singing skill and style;the third chapter,on the basis of the interview,explores the subjective and objective reasons for his singing style,including the impact of regional culture,influence from the folk art,his life experience,and innovation.Chapter Four mainly discusses the contributions of Wang Xiangrong.For one thing,he revived the ballads of Northern Shaanxi through his own performance,and even spread them overseas.For another,confronted with the challenge of time,he still actively inherits folk songs of Northern Shaanxi,and puts forward some beneficial suggestions for the future development of them.Meanwhile,his successful experience has important implications for other folk singers;the fifth chapter discusses the significance of studying on Wang Xiangrong.Mr.Wang is the representative of heirs of ballads in Northern Shaanxi,who have made replaceable contribution to the spread and development of folk songs.His learning experiences,singing style and artistic thoughts inspires the future development of the ballads.On the one hand,it is the folk songs that feeds him and leads to his success.On the other hand,his performance promotes the development of the folk songs in return.Taking Mr.Wang as the subject reveals the significant of the idea of human orientation.
