| As China and New Zealand’s relationship deepens,the promotion of Chinese language and Chinese culture has developed outstandingly.This thesis focuses on the Mandarin Language Assistants of the Confucius Institute in Auckland,New Zealand and it analyses their teaching efficacy,the teaching effectiveness,and how they are correlated.This paper explores the teaching efficacy of Mandarin Language Assistants through questionnaires and analyzes its attributions.What motivates students to study Mandarin and the research on these teachers’ reflections regarding their teaching experiences are supposed to reflect the Teaching Assistant’s(TA)teaching effectiveness.All these materials make the "evidence triangle".This thesis not only deepens the understanding of the level of influence the Mandarin Language Assistant Program has upon Mandarin Language Assistants,but also analyzes the characteristics of Mandarin Language Assistants in this program;likewise,it also explores how the program helps promote Chinese language education among primary and secondary schools in New Zealand.Through this research,we can conclude that the education background and teaching experience will,to some degree,affect the teaching efficacy of Mandarin Language Assistants.However,there are no major differences between in the teaching workloads among volunteer Chinese teachers,professional teachers and the overseas volunteer Chinese teacher.Most Mandarin Language Assistants know very little about Chinese language education in New Zealand,however,they are trying to learn more about it;therefore,there is no evident difference between volunteer Chinese teachers and professional teachers in regards to teaching efficacy.The ability to control teaching goals has a significant impact on Mandarin Language Assistants’ teaching efficacy.Teaching efficacy is considered a kind of subjective feeling,unique to every teacher,that cannot be used to directly imply their teaching effectiveness.Mandarin Language Assistants can slightly motivate students in primary and secondary schools through their personal charm and professionally-designed courses.Through this research,we can conclude that teaching efficacy can affect how Mandarin Language Assistants reflect on their teaching experience and evaluate teaching results. |
