Coastal Defense Architecture is an important part of the study of a national defense culture. The Coastal Defense Architecture construction of fortifications of the dynasty, not only embodies the rulers thoughts at that time, more determines the security of the whole country.Zhejiang Province is located in the middle of China’s coastline, the superior location conditions and the rapid economic development during the Dynasties of Ming and Qing make it became a powerhouse of coastal defense. And it built numerous fortifications, meanwhile, left many relics at that time.Prior to this, there are several relics survey of coastal defence, but the collation and research on these survey results have not yet been underway. So what are the features of Coastal Defense of Zhejiang Province in the Qing Dynasty in defense system, architectural layout, construction pattern?Through research and analysis,we can draw the following conclusion.First of all,the construction of coastal defence in the early Qing Dynasty are mostly based on the construction of Coastal Defence in Ming Dynasty.Secondly, the defense system inthe early Qing Dynasty was obviously showed the characteristic that centered on Ningbo and diminished to the north and south. The architectural layout is scattered, but orderly and constitutes the pattern of defense of battery, beacon tower and castles that including the Acropolis, the Suo city and the walled city.Thirdly,Compared with the Ming Dynasty, the construction of defensive structures also have some features.Although the castle use the remnant of the Ming Dynasty, but the buildings inside of castle are mostly rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. The battery of fort-style has more comprehensive shape, and the plane square, stereoscopic trapezoidal beacon tower becomes mainstream. The change and fixation of shape is motivated by practical needs,on the other hand, reflects progress of mature technology. Therefore, the engineering and defense systems in early Qing Dynasty can resist the attack of cold weapons, but could’t withstand the impact of guns.In addition, people are indifferent to the concept of sea power, the coastal defense facilities only exist in name only at the time of the Qing Dynasty.
