Research On Officials’ Vacation System In Northern Song Dynasty

Officials’ vacation system is an arrangement to coordinate interests between country and officials. It was developed well in Northern Song Dynasty. The activity and length of officials’ vacation in Northern Song is rare in Chinese history. Preventing bad policy was made to be principal of country ruling at the beginning of Northern Song Dynasty. System construction was carried out based on bad policy’s prevention principal, so was official’s vacation system. This thesis is on the background of Northern Song Dynasty’s founding, analyzes the operation of Officials’Vacation System, studies rulers’strategy in managing officials, and concludes the development of Officials’ Vacation System and its feature in Northern Song Dynasty from four parts:Part one:Content of Officials’ Vacation System in Northern Song Dynasty. Inducing and classifying Officials’ Vacation System content into legal, given, court and absent leave.Part two:Officials’ Vacation System in Northern Song Dynasty and its operation. This part firstly makes researches on relative system and regulation, for example leave process, leave period, and leave clearance; secondly analyzes the specific implementation of the System by example of funeral holiday; thirdly, focusing on the reality, illustrates disadvantages derived in the actual operation of the System by examples.Part three:Features of the System. Combined with the founding of background of the Northern Song Dynasty. On the basis of the above study, researching the officials leave system of the Northern Song Dynasty in a macroscopic perspective, it concluded that the distinctive features and characteristics of the officials leave system after compared it with the dynasty before and after Song DynastyPart four:Concluding the research and pointing out ruler’s political aim of pursuing internal stability in preventing possible risks and ruler’s bad policy prevention concept in the system ensuring stable rule.
