Effective teaching, a teaching process of "cognition and emotion", is an integral part of vocational college English teaching. It not only focuses on knowledge teaching, but attaches more importance to students’ emotional attitude and emotional needs in teaching. Good moral character and interest in English learning shall be achieved on condition that the students’ feelings and emotion get cared. In that case, both the teaching quality and the comprehensive quality of students shall be greatly improved.Affected by traditional education, teaching in China puts too much emphasis on knowledge and skills. However, it ignores the emotional goal in education for a long period. This is especially true in English teaching. In terms of the relationship between teachers and students, teachers are habitually viewed as the center with authority. As for the mode of evaluation, the traditional way of test has been adopted, which makes scores become the only yardstick of evaluating the students’ learning. Therefore, both the students’ interest in learning English and the teachers’ teaching enthusiasm are badly affected.Based on the investigation on the freshmen’s attitude on English learning in Vocational College, using the latest theoretical achievements on effective teaching domestic and overseas, the thesis aims to find out effective teaching strategies suitable for freshmen in Vocational College English teaching so that the students become interested in English learning to enjoy English in the future.Starting from the background of effective teaching, based on Humanistic psychology and Constructivism learning theory, this thesis manages to find out effective teaching strategies on both teaching and learning suitable for freshmen in English teaching. With application to English teaching in Vocational College, the thesis also concludes the effects of effective teaching in effective teaching strategies suitable for freshmen in Vocational College English teaching and puts forward some valuable suggestions for the further research in accordance with teaching evaluation system.
