Characters,embodied with aesthetic properties,are not only the written symbols,but also the origin of imagery.All the energy and hope contained on the land we live are benefited from the unlimited inheritance and record of characters from generation to generation.As a significant combinational element of visual communication design,character symbols possess prominent artistic expression even though they have experienced for a long history.And their strong vitality is highlighted in modern society with visual culture developed rapidly.Under the diversified setup of the world in which the global culture,native culture,modern culture and traditional culture integrated,and influenced by the international style,the research and design of character symbols mainly focus on the decoration,beautification and processing for the fonts and the like external form and structure,while rare research on the particular thought background contained in the common character symbols.The true design is not created but a stretch of genuine knowledge in life.In this thesis,starting from the analysis of the generative thought of pictograph and aesthetic feature of imagery,the formalization,vanity,lack of group cultural characteristics and the like limitations of some character designs in modern visual communication design would be discussed,in order to find out the diversified expression principles and methods of aesthetic perception of character symbol imagery as well as the way to apply this idea to the character design in modern visual communication.Great form is shapeless.The character symbols in Chinese context are originated from and finally direct to the natural world which is endowed with great beauty of life.The design philosophy of works formed in the process of the imagery interpretation to the great beautiful,by which you can see yourself from all.Play the abstract directive role of symbols to extract and deconstruct the character forms which are familiar in our mind.Meanwhile,widen the imaginary space of the visual property of character symbols.This exploratory research returned to the authenticity and nature,which is concise and comprehensive,tempts to surmount the limitations of pragmatic and referential function of character symbols in visual communication design to construct a symbolized visual expression method which is full of life rhythm.The last statement:we need to look at character symbols which have unique ethnic charm from an innovate perspective,conduct positive attempts for the modern reconstruction of oriental aesthetic imagery and further to reveal the expression meaning of the beauty of the life imagery of character symbols in design production.
