The Study On Artistic Style Of “Baishou Dance” Of Tujia Ethnic Group In Youyang, Chongqing

Baishou dance is a traditional dance of Tujia ethnic group in Youyang. The history of Tujia ethnic is functioning as praying, worship, sociality and culture recording etc. As a traditional minority group culture, suffered from evolvement in the past thousands of years, blended with invasive culture, Tujia culture has become a diversified culture but dominated by its original culture. The trait and style of Tujia’s aesthetics reflects the abundant artistic spirits and shows the unique impression. Baishou dance is the most representative dance of Tujia minority, which plays an important role in dance culture. Also, it is valuable for researching the histories, religions, folkways, mitigations and wars of Tujia minority.The main objectives for researching Baishou dance of Tujia ethnic group in Youyang, Chong Qing are shown in three aspects. One is to enrich the theoretical research in folk dance by exploring, summarizing, analyzing and concluding the artistic traits and styles of this folk dance; Anther one is to better inherit, protect and develop this folk culture, which can be realized by investigating the origin, development and current condition of Baishou dance. The last one, stands in higher level, is to promote the systemization, normalization and further development of Chinese dance subjects. These can be achieved by exploring the artistic spirit of this folk dance. The research is based on currently available theory of dance study and achieved by field investigation. With the combination of research approaches from anthropology, philology, historiography and dance studies, a systematical, complete and penetrated research is persued.The first section of this article is introduction. The second section covers description of Baishou dance. Historical changes are discussed in the third section. Section four to section six mainly discusses the artistic styles of Baishou dance. Merits and effect of researching this dance is illustrated in section seven. Finally, this article summarizes the main finds of this research regarding artistic styles of Baishou dance.
