Since the 1990s, a stream of "national cultural research" heat wave rose in Chinese mainland and lasted until present, and it had even become a global cultural topic. On account of its historical long-standing nature, literature authority and uniqueness of national culture, the Yao nationality in Hunan Province becomes a part with extreme research value in the field of cultural research in contemporary China. As two major parts that support and constitute national cultural characteristics, ethnic memory and national identity become scholars’hop topic in recent years. As far as the ethnic memory and national identity natures are concerned, they are ontological and supplementing each other. The ethnic memory provides powerful support for the national identity, while the national identity is the significant way for extending and inheriting ethnic memory. Through production, life, religious culture and other external manifestations, the ethnic memory constructs the national identity that corresponds with itself through by ways of oral text, spreading literature and folk customs. Meanwhile it confirms its national identity constantly among the national identities generated under the influence of such unique culture.Simultaneously, along with the continuous penetrating towards the Yao cultural research, people have profound experience to the preciousness of Hunan Yao nationality. However, nowadays under this overall background that the economic globalization deepens unceasingly, and the multi-culture permeates, the inheriting crisis to Hunan Yao nationality appears again and again. In such a period that foreign culture impacts local culture on and on, how to find a balance point to retain the essence of national cultural as well as adapt the cultural tide of the age so as to not be forgot by the age, are the issues urgent for us to research and explore.
