The source text belongs to a tourism text with many four–character phrases in its vocabulary. These words are concise and comprehensive in content, orderly in form, sweet-sounding in voice, which exerts a vivid effect on expression. Such difference between Chinese and English expressive rule makes it tougher for the translator to produce a high-quality translation.Four–character phrases consist of four morphemes, usually divided into a fixed structure and fixed structure. According to the grammatical structures and syntactic rules of four-character text, the internal relationship between the four characters in a phrase can be divided into four kinds: subject-predicate relationship, modifier-modified relationship, the verb-object relationship and parallel relationship. First, according to the feature of the text, the author summarizes those four-character groups as four categories: the subject-predicate relation, modifier-modified relationship, the verb-object relationship, parallel relationship four characters. Then, according to Newmark's text type theory and the particularity of tourism text(informational and vocational function of language), the author discusses the three main functions of them and on the basis of this puts forward three translation principles: the information equivalence principle, the principle of language economy and readability principle. Finally, according to that way of classification, the translator explores their translation strategies and methods respectively. The translation review of this paper is the special study for four–character phrases in which the author has some findings. First, about subject-predicate four words group, it needs to judge the part of speech of its predicate at first. If the predicate is adjectives, it can be translated into an adjective + noun structure or SVC structure. While if the predicate is verb, generally it will be translated into noun + noun structure or prepositional phrase structure. Second, as for modifier-modified relationship phrases,(they have information and vocation functions), the headwords must be recognized at the very beginning. This structure can be divided into attributive structure and adverbial structure. The former can be translated into noun structure, and the later into the form of an adverb+ a verb; Third, for the verb-object phrases, the translator usually adopt the method of literal translation to make it into verb +noun form. Sometimes they can be translated into English idiomatic expressions; Fourth, as for the parallel four words, considering the readers aesthetic habits, the translator use translation method of omission. Exactly, they can be translated into a word, also can only translate the first half or the latter half. As a result, they can be translated into the form of adjectives + adjectives, adjectives + nouns, nouns + noun or verb + noun. Of course, the translation strategies are not immune to but subsume each other. To conclude, the translator must grasp those necessary translation skills and combine several translation methods.
