As the outstanding figure of female authors, Ailing Zhang has peculiar family life.Her broken family life in her girlhood and life experiences formed her life memory. She lived in the old Shanghai,whose families were set as backgrounds for her novels. Her broken family in early times brought unhealed wound in her mind. The marriage and family ethics of Ailing Zhang were embedded in the description of story plots and figures in her novels.The thesis is attempt to dissect the writing motivation from her early experience,family environment and historical background, analyzes marriage and family ethics reflected in her novels, summarizes features of her marriage and family ethics, and digs out the meaning for modern society.Her writing style was objective and grim, which reflected true love that was the her thirst for “love first and piety and kindness family relation”. Under her special family background, she has not lost the believe into family even though she showed her indifference to her parents' love,her nostalgia for family life and pessimism for love and marriage. No matter how excellent her career was, she couldn't leave behind her love for family life. She was eager for the warmness of family, surrounded by her parents, and was loved by her parents.The novels of Ailing Zhang not only reveal the irregular family ethic resulted from darkness of society, but also reflect her marriage and family ethics that is love as the principle, pursuing individual equality and independence, and mutual progress.As for nowadays society,the positive meanings of her marriage and family ethics are set to remind us: advocating harmonious parent-child and brotherhood relationship, taking love as the foot-stone of marriage and raising self-culture for family moral.
