Higher vocational education has always been an important part of higher education in our country and the focus of social concern.With the rapid development of our economy and the acceleration of the world economic globalization,all walks of the society extremely demand people with certain knowledge of English language as well as the professional knowledge.Enterprises require that the employees' English level tend to be more professional.Therefore,the level of English proficiency has become one of the standard measures of talent,and the talents with solid English foundation and proficient command of English has become top priority of the enterprise.In this regard,higher requirements that vocational college should reform English teaching and cultivate application-oriented talents are put forward.The English teaching in higher vocational college should comply with the request of the times,the emphasis of English teaching should no longer focus on language knowledge teaching,but should pay attention to cultivate the students' future career-related English ability.The full name of ESP teaching theory is English for special purposes.Its aim is to cultivate the students' English using ability combined with students' major to meet the needs of the professional field.But the deficiency of students' English foundation in higher vocational institutes,the overall quality is not high.So how to make the higher vocational English teaching adapt to the social and economic development situation in our country as soon as possible,how to satisfy the demand to the business enterprise professional position is the problem to be solved in higher vocational English.This study,with the analysis to some higher vocational colleges in Qin Huangdao,explores the higher vocational English teaching mode based on the ESP theory of reform through the quantitative and qualitative analysis,It allows students to study for the purpose of application.In this paper,the first chapter is the research background,research significance and research status at home and abroad,and to define several important concepts such as Vocational English,ESP theory.The second chapter is to introduce the content of the theory of ESP in details,and to analyze the existing English teaching pattern in higher vocational colleges.And to research the current English teaching mode in higher vocational colleges through questionnaire and interview,and to analyze the current problems of teaching mode from students,teachers,teaching content,teaching methods,teaching aim,teaching material selection and teaching evaluation problems of the present teaching mode.The third chapter is to put forward the feasibility of targeted measures,aiming at the above problems.The fourth chapter is to carry out the contents of the reform of the ESP teaching mode in details combined with the automobile major,which is taught by the author so that the comprehensive training of Vocational College Students' English ability is in accordance with the characteristics of the development of the market economy,and adapt to the industries and enterprises' demands and cultivate the students' professional English application ability in the future job market with the principle of giving priority to practical and sufficient degree,taking employment as the guidance.
