Christo and Jeanne-Claude create some of the most impressive art works using the natural or urban environment together with effects of fabric. With their large-scale projects around the world, Christo and Jeanne-Claude changed the concept of using fabric in the contemporary art world. In my research I will focus on analysis and introspections of the ideas, genre and social influence of their work.In the first chapter of my research I will examine the creative work and the life of Christo. He found the courage to leave his own country and run away to the West in search of freedom. The hardships and cataclysms during his life behind the Iron Curtain influenced his creative work. During his time in Paris, Christo created his early works of art:"wrapped objects", met Jeanne-Claude and together, they started creating their large-scale projects. In the second chapter, I will analyze the creative projects of Christo and Jeanne-Claude in urban and natural environments. By using fabric as means of expression, they highlight the temporary character and aesthetic influence of their outdoor spatial installations. For each project, they always choose places that are used by and accommodate the needs of people. Through renting a publicly used space, they turn it into a work of art. The preceding negotiations with the owners, governments, and district governors, are part of their projects. In the third chapter of my research I will focus on Christo's idea of wrapping and the relentless creativity of his creative tandem with Jeanne-Claude, as well as the way they turn art into their way of life. He introduces 'wrapping'as an artistic method in his early works, and later in his large-scale projects, in order to give them a pure form. Christo and Jeanne-Claude have created an innovative method for sponsoring their projects, which has earned them the financial freedom they wished for.In the fourth chapter I will analyze the stages where Christo and Jeanne-Claude go through in order to realize their projects. Starting from the idea to the realization of the project, passing through the so-called'software'and'hardware'stages of their art.At the end of my research, I will add an interview with Christo's niece and my teacher-Tsveta Yavacheva.
