A Report On The Translation Of China Dolls

The text of this report is abstracted from one of the works of Lisa See named China Dolls, which is 120,000 words long and has multiple topics. Published in June 3rd, 2014, China Dolls has been favored by plenty of readers after its publication. The Chinese version of this novel has not been published. Two chapters, Grace Extreme Joy Begets and Grace Dancing on the Edge, which have more than 10000 words in total, are abstracted from the whole text and translated into Chinese.Literature translation belongs to the category of expressive text, so we should not only transmit the artistic conception of the original work, but also let the readers have the feeling of being enlightened. In the process of translation, I take the Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation of Peter Newmark as theoretical support.The translation strategies of semantic translation and communicative translation are adopted in the process of translation. Some examples are chosen to make analysis in the aspect of vocabulary, sentence, and text. In the end, I make a conclusion on this translation practice and propose some related thinking about this practice.I hope I can explore the problems which should be noted and the difficult problems that will be met in the practice of literature translation, and all those may accumulate more experience for my future translation.
