A lot of passive sentences are used in legislative texts in order to embody the objectiveness and accuracy of legal language. This is a translation report for a legislative text- Property Law Act 1974 of Queensland. This report focuses on the translation strategies of passive sentences in Property Law Act 1974.Firstly the author introduces Property Law Act 1974 briefly, elaborates the causes and functions of passive sentences in legal English and summarizes the translation strategies of passive sentences. Then the author discusses three main translation strategies of passive sentences of the Act, namely, translating English passive sentences into Chinese active sentences, translating English passive sentences into Chinese passive sentences, and translating English passive sentences into Chinese sentences without subjects. Finally, the author draws a conclusion and summarizes the lesson learned in the process of translation. The author hopes that this report may provide reference for the translation of passive sentences in other legal documents.
