The Taste of Home Contest Winning Annual Recipes 2010 collects the winning recipes of 2010 from the world-famous Taste of Home, the No.1 cooking magazine in the American.This report is a translation of the Chapter five, the staple food of the practice report that introduces western recipes. The original text is selected from the Taste of Home Contest Winning Annual Recipes 2010 which consists of eleven parts, mainly introducing cooking methods of various food, such as the breakfast, staple food, soups, salads, cakes and so on.This translation report gives priority to the analysis of technical terms, brand-loaded words and sentences. To be more specific, literal translation and explanation are adopted to translate technical terms, while amplification is used to translate names of recipes and free translation is adopted to translate set phrases. Besides, transliteration is used to translate brand-loaded words.The report shows that the sentences in source text are very short and the style of the text belongs to the informative texts and vocative texts. In order to translate informative texts and vocative texts, the translator should not only use various translation skills in a flexible manner, taking into account the characteristics of the text, but also should focus on accurate expressions of the target language, retaining the style and charm of the source language.
