Color words are the most colorful part of the modern Chinese vocabulary system.It is not only the name of different colors,but also the connotation of the essence of Chinese culture.The traditional material color words used in real life,with the change of modern science and technology's development and people's cognitive psychology,are gradually filled with personification,simile,metaphor,rhetoric to form new color words,such as Barbie Pink,gentleman black,charm purple and so on,to give color words vitality and new cultural connotation on the sensory point of view.Foreign students are full of confusion and doubt about the new color words encountered in their daily life.However,it is impossible to find a solution in a book or a dictionary.Based on semantic and pragmatic theories,the author makes a comparison between the new color words and the traditional color words,summarizes the characteristics and causes of the new color words,and then carries out a questionnaire survey on middle and high level foreign students to study how good they grasp the new color vocabulary.At last,the author analyzes and summarizes the survey results,to put forward the teaching strategies and suggestions for the color words in the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.There are five chapters in this paper.The first chapter is the introduction,in which the author firstly explains the significance of the topic,and then summarizes the history and current situation of the experts and scholars' study on color words,and finally explains the theoretical basis and the method of researching new color words.The second chapter is an overview of traditional color words,mainly introduces the formation,grammatical functions and semantic features of the color words for foreign students to learn.Chapter three expounds the causes and features of the new color words,pointing out the composition,semantic and pragmatic features and expression characteristics of new color words.The fourth chapter shows the survey on student cognition of new color words,and the process of the questionnaire design and implementation.It also summarizes the understanding problems and errors of new color word and analyzes the reasons based on the results of this survey.The fifth chapter proposes strategies and advice on teaching Chinese as a foreign language based on the survey,and puts forward the teaching theory and teaching principle and the design of teaching material,teaching method and so on.
