A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Commentaries And Exhibit Captions For Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall In Nanning

With the development of China’s economy and the deepening of China’s opening up, there has been an increasing number of enterprises and public institutions beginning to provide publicity materials both in Chinese and English, with objective of establishing exchange relations with the related fields overseas, building a favorable image as well as enhancing their dimension. The C-E translation of commentaries and exhibit captions for celebrity memorial hall which is a significant part of publicity materials, bears heavy responsibility for spreading Chinese culture.This report is based on the author’s translation project of the C-E translation of the Commentaries and Exhibit Captions for Deng Yingchao Memorial Hall. The first chapter of this report introduces the general background of this translation project.Chapter Two details the translation process. Chapter Three gives an introduction to the translation theory guided during the whole translation process. Chpater Four deals with case study, and in this part, cases with expression of distinct Chinese characteristics are selected: terms of historical events, names of places and organizations as well as long sentences. Corresponding translation strategies and method are discussed under the guidance of Skopos Theory, including literal translation plus annotation, amplification and paraphrasing. The last chapter is a conclusion. While summarizing strategies and techniques of translation for celebrity memorial halls, this report is in hope of providing references for translation in related field.
