A Report On The Translation Of Ohio Revised Code(Chapter 3101 & Chapter 3107)

This is a translation report for Chapter 3101 and Chapter 3107 of Ohio Revised Code. The aforesaid two chapters govern marriage and adoption of Ohio. During the translation process, the author finds that section headings in English legislative texts are represented in various structures, and are different from those in Chinese legislative texts. Section headings play a vital place in legislative texts, for they summarize the contents of each clause with brief words. But few scholars are concerned themselves with the translation of English section headings. Basing on a contrastive study of section headings in English legislative texts and those in Chinese legislative texts, the author defines eight basic modes of section headings in English legislative texts and analyzes structures thereof respectively, after which a detailed analysis of translation strategy and thinking process is demonstrated.
