Confucius and Yanhui’s Contentment means the state of the saints, and it points to the final target of Confucian’s methodology. Confucian’s methodology means finding how to get the state of the saints. They were mentioned in Song Dynasty, but what they mean ran through ideologies in the period from the pre-Qin period till now, and finally a system of Confucian’s ideality with practise and transcendence was made up. Confucian’s ideality contains double attributes: teleology and methodology. As teleology, it leads to various Confucianism methodologies. These methodologies are also included by Confucian’s ideality, and the relationship between them makes up the growing state of saints’ life. The life contains transcendence. It begins with the centrality which leads to awareness of unexpected development, and develops with wisdom of learning by doing which plays the methodology and develop the awareness to the contentment of saints. Then the wisdom is limited by the fear of consciousness, which lead the contentment to a strange and changeful state of human close to the highest state.In the growing ideality of Confucianism, the saints suffer the country and family, while fear the sky and ground of the nature, at the same time controls the life wisdom of which man is an integral part of nature. They give expression to the care of social practice. The ideality of Confucian contains the wisdom which connects the whole Confucianism. It is close to the wisdom of earnestness and benevolence as well as truth stressed by Confucianism. It also contains the practice of methodology which means being sage inside and being king outside. It begins with upholding the principle, and it is led by moderation, meanwhile it follows the target of connecting the inside with the outside with the method of rectification of names. Finally it forms the system of methodology, flows in the Confucianism, and plays the transcendence of limited human. As we see, the ideality of Confucianism is dynamic and static combined. On one hand, it is the target of the great state of saints which is pursued by scholars. And on the other hand, it is not a final target which is static. It is a changing period of saints studying and working. In this period the ideality of Confucian contains the unification of personage and community, which appears with the awareness of unexpected development, and the unification of knowledge and practice, which appears with the wisdom in the environment of awareness. At the same time it always focuses on human and realizes the unification of universe and human, which is also the unification of finite and infinite. As we can see, compared with regarding the contentment as a target, where the Confucius and Yanhui’s Contentment is has more value to explore. Especially when individuality is in contradiction to sociality today, to explore the ideality of Confucianism which contains these three unifications will give efficacious advice and higher request to the happiness in the big direction of harmonious society construction of China. |
