With the further implementation of reform and opening-up policy, the cooperation and communication between China and the West are getting more and more frequent and intensified. The traditional Chinese culture with its unique characteristics enjoys an increasingly high popularity among our friends in foreign countries. As an important branch of the traditional Chinese culture, Taoist Culture played an important role in Chinese Literature. Zhuangzi epitomized the thought of this school. The book, Zhuangzi, written by him, was regard as a classic in Taoism. Zhuangzi Accompanying You in This Mortal World discusses the application of Zhuangzi's philosophy in daily life. Starting from practical problems, its author, Mr. Wang Yijia, tried to give a new explanation to Zhuangzi's philosophy by quoting sentences from Zhuangzi and giving some new interpretations and illustrations. It enlightens people in mental aspects and helps to spread the traditional Chinese culture as well.The original text of this report is based on the third chapter(Cultivating an Insightful and Broad Horizon) of about 10, 000 Chinese characters, including 8 parts of Zhuangzi Accompanying You in This Mortal World. This chapter mainly discusses how to treat books and knowledge. The translation project is accomplished by the author with the help from my supervisor, Professor Wang Jianping.This report firstly gives an introduction to the translation task, including its background and practical significance, the introduction and analysis of the source text, and its theoretical guidance — the Functional Equivalence Theory. Secondly it describes the translation procedure including the preparation, translation and revision process. Thirdly, under the guidance of the Functional Equivalence Theory, it displays how to overcome translation difficulties in terms of phrase, sentence and textural cohesion. During the translation process, lots of translating methods are used. Lastly, a summary of the translation task is given at the end of this report.
