Peter Hessler, Chinese name is He wei, a former New Yorker correspondent in Beijing. More than 10 years between 1996-2007,Hessler lived and worked in China.According to his own life experiences and stories, he writed and published the documentary literature “trilogy of China”:“River Town:Two Years on the Yangtze” ?“Oracle Bones:A Journey Through Time in China ”and “Country Driving:From the Countryside to Factory”.Hessler 's "trilogy of China” created a multitude of Chinese character images,those images can be divided into two types: social edge image, including homeless immigrants, anxious doers, spirit double-sided little people; social elite image,including the ideal literati, contradiction of public figures. The formation context of Chinese character images in " Trilogy of China " is the dilemma in the " third space "," orientalism " under the vision of " other ". Chinese character images contains many elements of " orientalism ". Artistic features in " Trilogy of China” is the narrative structure of nonlinear type, the first person narrative perspective combined subjective and objective,which is the choice of narrative strategy; the innovation of narrative art,such as the narrative style of literary style mixing, dilute the plot etc.Hessler 's Chinese character image in the "trilogy of China”, although with the author's ideological bias and utopianism to a certain degree, still broke through stereotypes of Chinese image in the western literary works, maked it present a new attitude.
